prefrontal cortex diff

Was doing a bit of research as i’m going to meet a Prof. later regarding UROPS (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science ) and bump into this! In case u’re wondering, the definition of the prefrontal cortex is…
——————————————————————————–

Prefrontal cortex: This area of the brain is thought to be involved in planning complex cognitive behaviours and in the expression of personality and appropriate social behaviour. The prefrontal cortex is found in the cortical regions of the frontal lobe which are anterior to the primary and association motor cortices. It is divided into the dorsolateral, orbitofrontal (also called the limbic frontal lobe) and mesial prefrontal areas.

Cognitive: Pertaining to, or characterised by cognition - the mental process of knowing, thinking, learning and judging.

Frankly, i’m quite afraid of doing UROPS. Have heard countless horror stories, and yet there were some good ones as well. Big sigh, is this what i want? Maybe i should expect the very worse and try to come out unscathed. Although I’m highly sceptical of that. Another big sigh!

*Edit*
As i was pouting and sighing and just feeling blahh..thot of how amazed i was by God’s grace!

Number 1: Essay topic spotting before exams! Not 100% of the questions tho’…Should have hadasked more and doubted less. But some topics were right smacked accurate. Gives me the chills just thinking about it :P

Number 2: Love gift from some mysterious person for my trip to East Timor. And i wonder who…??

Well pray that these numbers add up!

Sorry for the delay Ms Bloom (haha, suddenly realize that i like calling you by your pseudoname)…must forgive me ok? just had 2 tests and 2 reports to hand in today!!! Ok, here goes…..

Ten Years Ago I was:
11 years old, playing jump rope, hopscotch, five stones…at school. Time really moved slowly then…couldn’t wait to grow up and achieve it all. ..hahaha..being the idealistic kid that I still identify with :P
No worries (except for the occasional tests which seem so trivial now!), loads of fun (sleepovers, camps, outings, games), and together with so many idealistic goals in mind = a happy kid.

5 years ago I was:
16 . Still remembered my ’sweet sixteen birthday’ celebration. *gasp* Wish i had a scanner now to show yall de photos! *lol* A little more matured, and yet still naive. (not that i know a lot now) A lot more disillusioned by life in general. Not so happy :P Was at a phase where I didn’t have any sense of direction. Lost sweet girl wandering aimlessly through the daily routines of life.

1 year ago I was:
20. 2nd year at NUS. Still disillusioned. Gosh, how I needed to change! (Am still in the process of a metamorphosis)

Yesterday I was:
Studying, doing reports, sleeping for only 3 hours … cant sleep now tho’…

5 snacks I enjoy:
Mum’s baking (too many to list..luv u mummy :)), sweet potato, dairy milk chocolate bar (classic ones or special kinds like triple chocolate! mmm), bananas (NOT the del monte type), seaweed (normal or wasabi..huhu)

5 Songs I Know All the Words To:
Twinkle twinkle little star, mary had a little lamb, the alpahbet song, round and round the garden, incy wincy spider. (yays, i’ve graduated from kindergarten!)

5 Things I would Do With A 100 Million Splurges:
Invest so that i can have even more splurges *nyek nyek*, travel around the world, set up funds for the needy, have shopping sprees, get myself another degree?

5 Bad Habits:
smoke, drink, partay, do drugs and slap strangers. Ok, ok, the real thing?

Procrastinate, not talk when i dun feel like it, being messy (according to my parents…to which i will reply: I’m actually neat! (sometimes)), not being punctual, can’t think of another bad habit liao :P

5 Biggest Joys:
Being borned into the family that i’m in, knowing Christ, getting my scholarship, being able to play music, just the thought of being alive.

5 Favourite Toys:
harr..wad toyz?

5 Things I Would Never Wear:
nothing when i’m in public…seriously duno how to answer this q!

5 Favourite TV Shows:
don’t really watch much tv nowadays :P

And the best things in life are free

November 1, 2005

Hmmm… “best things”…”free”….

What is the first thing you’d think about when you wake up? The things that usually go through my head:

-should i jog?
-can a afford another 15 minutes of sleep?
-what do i have to do today?
-oh my gosh, i’m late!
-I need more sleep
-gah, so many things to do
-God, help me
-nothing :P

When I should be thinking of :

-ahh, what a beautiful morning
-being thankful for my very existence
-the sun, the air, the birds singing outside my window
-how productive *ahem* i’m going to be for the whole day
-the friends i’m going to meet and make
-the family that i was borned into
-getting to know Him more
-how blessed I am
-some eye candy (haha caught u there…try flowers laa…pretty hibiscus along the road leading to my hall)

Yeah, the best things in life are free. And when they are not, they don’t count as the best things in life. So much for trying to poke holes in this saying :P
————————————————————————————————————–

Suddenly remembered of this movie ‘Life is beautiful’ aka ‘Vita è bella, La’. nice ‘family’ photo here For those whom haven’t, watch it. It’s relatively old but i must say, it’s a classic. Speaks so much about how one can either sink or swim in situations which call for courage and strength. We often mutter our complains at whatever lemons life has to offer, and sometimes, we even contemplate on ending everything once and for all. It’s so hard to think beyond the mountain that is in front and when all hope turns dim, it is so easy to just give up.

What makes a person so strong? The main character in this movie played many roles. He was first a bummer, then a love-strucked man, and then a husband and father. No matter what happens- being caught for some mischief, chasing after his sweetheart, escaping from the Nazis, being trapped in the concentration camp, the risk of losing his wife and child…he remains unmoved..unfazed even? and instead making a joke out of the whole stituation. I can’t remember whether he survived the war but i remembered the child being protected despite the countless dangers he faced.

It seems that you become strong when others depend on you. It seems that when there is an expectation of you to rise to the challenge, you would. It seems that when you know that you are destined to overcome these obstacles, you could. What is my destiny then? Who am I? What is my role here on earth? A child of God, a daughter, a sister, a student, a friend… A musician, a lover, a writer, a leader?

William Shakespeare:
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.”

Aurelia:
“Yes, dreams are free. And they are one of the best things in life.”

Come on now, start workin’ on them already! woot!
